Ferries to further abroad also depart from Brindisi's port, making travel to Greece and Albania easier and more enjoyable than ever before.  Brindisi is served by Brindisi airport, also known as Brindisi Papola Casale Airport and Salento Airport. The airport is located 3.7 miles (6 kilometers) from Brindisi city centre, and is well served by public transportation. 

What's the best way to get to the airport from Brindisi city centre​

Local coaches traverse the route between Brindisi Airport and Brindisi proper, as well as nearby towns such as Lecce. These coaches are conveniently scheduled according to flight arrivals and departures, and are just a couple of euros per ticket. coach transfer to Lecce takes 45 minutes and to Brindisi takes around 20 minutes. How far is it from the city centre to the airport?

Driving to the airport from Brindisi is the fastest option (taking roughly six minutes to get to the airport on a good day), and several car rental services are available just outside of the airport. However, getting to and from the airport using public transportation is fast and convenient, not to mention significantly cheaper. coaches depart every half an hour from just outside of the airport, and the journey takes between 20 and 30 minutes, depending on the stop you get off at.

What facilities are there at the airport?

Brindisi Airport has all of the amenities you would expect from a small regional airport. There is a nice cafe with ample seating selling pizza, sandwiches, great coffee and other drinks, as well as some sit-down meals. travellers will also find a small shop selling local hams and wines, as well as a ubiquitous gift shop. Free WiFi is available throughout the small airport, with generally great connection speeds. There might not be much to do at Brindisi Airport, but there is a surprising mini-museum showcasing local artifacts! 

How accessible is the route for those with limited mobility?

Passengers with limited mobility should have no issues navigating Brindisi Airport. A special zone signposted as "Sala Amica"​ provides a room for those with limited ability, and specialized staff are on hand seven days a week to provide assistance. The coach is suitable for those with mild physical or mental limitations, but those requiring more specialist care should consider booking alternative transportation to and from Brindisi Airport with their travel providers. 

Local tips: how to travel to the airport like a local

Locals would know that getting through customs at Brindisi Airport is extremely quick, and no matter what the flight, anything longer than two hours at Brindisi Airport is overkill. While drinks are available at the airport, they are really expensive (over three euros for a bottle of water) so come prepared.  As far as the route is concerned, locals wouldn't travel via taxi without discussing the price beforehand. Obviously, travelling from Brindisi Airport via taxi requires passengers knowing their location in Italian, or having it written down, as it is not a given that taxi drivers will speak English.
