Great Western Rail FAQs
GWR Accessibility
GWR Trains are usually quite narrow due to their high-speed capacity, therefore it is important to ensure the aisles are kept clear. Wheelchair Assistance is available for elderly, injured or disabled passengers who require assistance to feel more comfortable when getting on or off the train. Call the Assisted Travel team for more details on +44800 197 1329
GWR Luggage
You can bring up to 2 items of luggage measuring 30cm x 70cm x 90cm as well as a bad that fits on your lap. You can store suitcases safely in the luggage compartment as you enter the carriage. For smaller items, you can use the luggage racks overhead to place soft items, small shopping bags and laptops; alternatively place them under the seat infront of you. Make sure your luggage does not block the aisles or exits.
GWR Wifi and Services
GWR Trains offer free Wifi to all ticket holders. You can connect to The Cloud at stations, too. Onboard there is free GWR WiFi; this allows you to connect to read and send messages, send emails and browse the web. If you want to open large files, watch videos or films, try to download them beforehand as the data available will not cover this.
GWR Travelling with pets
Passengers are normally allowed to take pets with them on journeys, provided they are kept on a lead or in a cage. Small animals which are permitted on the train include cats, dogs, and other small animals (maximum 2 per person). They must not cause inconvenience or stress to other passengers, nor occupy any seats. Always check with GWR should you have any concerns before travelling.
GWR Lost and Found
Should you lose any luggage or items of clothing or coats, report where and when you think you lost the item on the GWR website. Their customer service will contact you if they retrieve it, or if it in handed in. Similarly, if you find anything on a train or at the station then hand it in to train station staff. Remember to keep clear of unattended luggage and inform a member of staff right away.
GWR Bicycles
Bikes must be pre-booked on services, especially on commuter trains to London Paddington. Often there is only space for a few bikes, so fold-up bikes are recommended. Remember to reserve a space in advance. The decision is at the train manager's discretion whether or not to let you board.
GWR Cancellations and Modifications
There is a €10 fee for amending or refunding Advance tickets. You can amend the time of your train and even get a refund, as long as your ticket is not and Advance ticket - these are non-refundable.
GWR Transport of minors
Although there is no minimum age a minor can travel, it's essential that children are aware of the risks of train travel. It is up to the parents to decide if the child is fit to travel. If a member of staff is worried about a child travelling on their own, they may inform the British Transport Police to ensure their safety.
GWR Refunds
Some tickets may allow you to apply for a refund, if you haven't used them yet, if the train is heavily delayed and cancelled. Under certain circumstances, some cheaper tickets may be non-refundable - such as if it is an Advanced ticket.
For your claim to be considered, be sure to apply for a refund within 28 days of the ticket's expiry date. Make sure you check the terms and conditions of the ticket before you buy.
