There is a coach station at the airport and many connections, making public transportation an easy way for travellers to reach their flight. Driving and taxis are also an option, and follow a similar route. 

What's the best way to get to Bilbao Airport from Bilbao city centre?

The coach is the best way to get to Bilbao Airport from Bilbao city centre. The A3247 coach departs the Termicoach station in central Bilbao, and it is four stops to the Aeropuerto Bilbao stop. The ride takes 20 to 25 minutes without traffic. travellers coming from central Bilbao can reach the Termicoach station easily, either by walking or subway. Termicoach station is just under one mile (1.6 kilometers) from the city centre, and this is a 20 minute walk, or a seven minute ride on the C1 or C2 subway lines from the Bilbao station to the San Mames station, which is a few minutes away from Termicoach. 

How far is it from Bilbao city centre to Bilbao Airport?

The airport is just over seven miles (11.2 kilometers) northeast of central Bilbao. coaches take a more direct route to the airport, using highways, and departs as frequently as every 15 minutes. Whether passengers walk or take the subway to Termicoach station, it is recommended passengers leave longer than the 40 minutes required for the journey to the airport. Leaving at least one hour to get to the airport is a good idea for any airport transit using the city roads. Those travelling inside of peak hours may want to leave upwards of one and a half hours to reach their flight.  

What facilities are there at Bilbao Airport?

There are a fantastic array of facilities and services at Bilbao Airport, including free WiFi throughout the terminals. As well as short and long stay parking garages, the airport has a drop-off rank for taxis. There are two work areas for coachiness people and a children's play area for those travelling with family. The Termicoach station has elevators and disabled restrooms, and coaches have wheelchair ramps and assistance for those with limited mobility. Bilbao Airport also has services to people with limited mobility, which should be requested 48 hours in advance. Meet special assistance personnel at one of the airport's many meeting points, and from there passengers will receive help of all kinds, all the way from check-in to boarding the flight. There are disabled restrooms and all amenities at the airport are accessible. Everyone has different needs, and it is best to let the airport know the details of any required assistance. 

Local tips: how to travel to Bilbao Airport like a local

Locals take the coach to catch their flight when they can. The Estuary of Bilbao river is nearby the Termicoach station, so locals with an hour or so to spare before their journey spend their waiting time enjoy a light river breeze by one of Bilbao's attractive natural sights. They get a window seat when possible as the coach winds through lovely green areas on its way to the airport, and with Spain's sunny weather, there are beautiful views to be had along the way. Locals eat at the airport and enjoy some relaxation time at the airport cafes with their travel companions or a great book.
