Travellers to the Austrian capital can fly from a wide range of European destinations. Getting from the International Airport to the city centre is fast and simple. Passengers can transfer in minutes from their flights to the S-Bahn railway, which takes 25 minutes to get into town. There is also a 16 minute Express service to Wien Mitte and a selection of local buses to suburban destinations.

What to do in Vienna

Vienna is in the top rank of European destinations for many reasons. As a historical city, it has few equals. For centuries, Vienna was the hub of a massive Empire, becoming a cosmopolitan cultural centre. In the 18th century, the city hosted a dizzying array of musical talent - including Mozart, Liszt, Haydn and Beethoven. In the 19th century, it became a scientific and literary centre as well - hosting the psychology of Freud, writers like Stefan Zweig and artists like Klimt. Visitors can join walking tours connecting the homes of the great composers, head to the Freud Museum or see masterworks by Klimt at the Secession. Culture isn't everything that Vienna has to offer though. It is also a culinary hub - famous for its pastries and meat dishes like the Wiener schnitzel. It also hosts plenty of events, including the Summer-break dance music festival, and the Vienna Festival, which takes place in late spring.
