Zurich International Airport receives numerous flights from across Europe and is the hub for Swiss Airlines which operate routes from all major European capitals, as well as holiday destinations such as Malaga, Alicante, Palma de Mallorca and Gran Canaria. British Airways links Zurich to London Heathrow and City Airports, Easyjet to London and Hamburg while Iberia has flights from Madrid. Zurich Airport is located 13 km North of the city with ten fast direct S-Bahn trains an hour linking it to the centre in just a few minutes. A light railway system interlinks with Zurich's trams while buses and taxis can also be taken into the city. Car rentals are available at all three terminals.
Zurich is a popular year-round destination offering visitors tranquil Summer beaches on the shores of Lake Zurich, winter skiing and interesting short city breaks with plenty of history and culture in the Old Town. The Kunsthaus is a premier art gallery holding works by Swiss artist Giacometti while the medieval Fraumunster Cathedral has five magnificent stained-glass windows designed by Chagall. There are pleasant walks along the banks of the River Limmat where the Johann Jacobs Museum, dedicated to coffee, is the ideal place for refreshments and people watching. The young at heart, whatever their age, will enjoy Zurich Zoo with its new Masoala Rainforest exhibit. During the Winter season, the ski resort of Flumserberg is just a short drive or train ride away. Nightlife is lively and cosmopolitan, although Swiss cuisine tends to be on the hearty side.
