Trains from Vienna to Linz: Journey Details

The first train from Vienna to Linz departs at 6:30 a.m. and arrives at 7:45 a.m. Services run three times an hour, at thirty, thirty-eight, and fifty-six minutes past up until the last two services at 10:12 p.m. and 11:08 p.m. The weekend schedule is similar, although a few services are omitted from the schedule. All services are run by Deutsche Bahn and, although most are direct, some have one or two changes.

Taking the Train from Vienna

Trains from Vienna to Linz run from Wien Westbahnhof station. The station is located in the Rudolfsheim-Fünfhaus district on the inner-city ring road. It is easily accessible by foot from the city centre and will take no longer than five minutes to reach by following Mariahilfer Street north for a few hundred metres. Alternatively, there is a subway service that operates every five minutes from Wien Thaliastraße in the city centre that takes around two to three minutes to reach the station.

Getting into Linz by Train

Trains from Vienna to Linz arrive at Linz Hauptbahnhof station, which is in Bahnhofplatz, a plaza situated near the southern edge of the city centre. The distance to the heart of the city centre is walkable, however tram services 1 and 2 run direct from the station to the city centre every ten minutes or so and should take no longer than ten minutes to reach the destination. Services run from as early as 4:08 a.m. to as late as 12:45 a.m.
