About Frankfurt

Frankfurt am Main is the largest city of Hesse where futuristic skylines meet elegant 19th-century city buildings. One of the best ways to get an overview of the city and really appreciate this modern skyline is from one of the bridges crossing the River Main or by taking the lift to the top of Main Tower, the only skyscraper open to the public. Frankfurt sometimes referred to as 'Mainhattan'. The city's historic heart is in Römer square, but beautiful buildings and parks can also be searched out in Sachsenhausen and Nordend.

Quick Guide to Frankfurt

Must Know: May to September is the best time to visit the city as the weather is pleasently warm.

Must See: Little remains of medieval Frankfurt but notable survivals worth visiting include the Alte Nikolaikirche, the 15th-century Rententurm or Customs Tower and the remains of Saalhof Castle.

Must Do: While in Frankfurt visitors should try its local apple cider, Apfelwein and taste some green sauce with their meals. This condiment of mayonnaise and green herbs accompanies many dishes and was said to be a particular favourite of Goethe, one of the city's most famous sons.
